How To Prevent Hair Loss
First of all, we need to understand that a certain amount of hair loss is normal, but when it becomes a problem, we need to take some positive steps to control it. Naturally, there will be some instances when we can’t prevent hair falling out, especially in the few months after having a baby; it is completely natural to lose hair. Sometimes it is hereditary too. We also need to make sure our diet includes sufficient vitamins and minerals, especially selenium.
However there are some things we can control. Understanding the hair growth cycle helps also. It’s absolutely vital to take good care of our hair so we can stop saying my hair is falling out. We can do this a number of ways.
Using a mild shampoo and conditioner is preferable. And it is also a good idea to have some days when you will not wash your hair. Regular gentle (not too vigorous) brushing and combing of your hair will encourage a good blood supply to the hair follicles. A head massage is excellent. Avoid, where possible, exposing your hair to heat through hair dryers which will weaken the protein in each of the strands, and will make them brittle and fragile. This also includes appliances like hair straighteners, which, if used excessively will not do your hair any good. Obviously, drying your hair in the sun or indoors is by far the best way.
Minimise the amount of times you put chemical colours in your hair as these products cause inflammation to the hair follicles and can cause the scalp to develop scars, resulting in hair falling out. Definitely using hair dye more than about every second month, is bad for your scalp. Leaving our hair its natural colour is completely acceptable and we should not allow ourselves to be pressured by advertising to colour our hair as soon as we see a grey hair.
Apart from safety, it is good if our hair can hang freely rather than be tied up tightly in a bun or with elastic or clips all day. It is not good to stretch our hair and put pressure on our scalp, since this causes it to become inflamed and the hair will fall out.

After we have washed our hair, it is preferable to avoid brushing it too vigorously when it is wet. This puts pressure on the hair follicles which might be still slightly open due to the warmth of the water. Any pressure on them can make strands of hair more prone to falling out. We also need to be careful how we dry our hair, and we should not rub vigorously with a coarse towel, we should pat our hair with a soft towel.
With the correct care we can prevent hair loss, which will make life much easier as well as helping to preserve our natural beauty.
